South Coast Researcher Gets Major Federal Grant To Study Female Brain Function

A South Coast researcher has received a $5 million dollar federal grant to help us learn more about women’s brain health.

UC Santa Barbara neuroscientist Emily Jacobs is looking at how ovarian hormones impact the structure, and function of female brains.

The grant from the National Institutes of Health will fund a five year study which could give us more insight into menopause and the aging brain.

Most existing studies have focused on adults 65 or older, but this new effort will focus on younger women. The research will take place at UCSB and at UC San Diego.
