A South Coast based relief agency known for shipping emergency medicine, and medical supplies to those in need in the world is now helping communities in the United States impacted by racial justice protests.
Direct Relief is sending shipments of supplies to more than 40 health care facilities around the country.
Direct Relief officials say while the vast majority of protests over the killing of George Floyd have been peaceful, essential services have been disrupted in some areas. Public transit has been limited, and some stores and pharmacies closed.
Many clinics have also been flooded with people who took part in demonstrations seeking coronavirus tests. The supplies being shipped from Santa Barbara are intended to help clinics backfill dwindling medical supplies, including protective gear for staff.
