South Coast Museum Temporarily Closes Main Galleries For Remodeling

Museum of Ventura County closes main galleries for the rest of 2016 as a part of remodeling effort

A South Coast museum is temporarily closing its primary galleries as it undergoes a physical and financial makeover.

The Museum of Ventura County has closed its downtown Ventura galleries until the first of the year, as it revamps the space and adds new exhibitions. At the same time, the non-profit organization will move to reduce expenses while launching a fundraising campaign. The museum’s operations have been in the red in recent years, and it has gone through multiple management changes.

Elena Brokaw, who’s a longtime City of Ventura executive, is now heading the museum on an interim basis.

Some of the museum’s facilities will remain open during the makeover, including the Research Library. A number of special events including Free First Sundays will also continue as planned.
