South Coast Fire Officials Compile Plan To Reduce Wildfires By Controlling Brush

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has a management plan that may help to reduce large wildland fires.

The plan was presented Tuesday to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, and calls for several approaches.

Those include cutting and reinforcing large fuel trails and breaks along the ridgelines and where historic firelines have gone in.

The report says that while prescribed burns are risky in the steep front-country hills, the fire department was given the board's permission to go forward with environmental reviews and to collaborate with other agencies on fire prevention.
