South Coast City To Use Technology To Keep Construction Moving In Coronavirus Era

Mar 25, 2020

A South Coast city is trying to use technology to keep coronavirus from bogging down construction in the community. The City of Goleta is moving to electronic permit applications and plan submittals. And, it’s also going to try to have building inspectors do remote inspections of completed work.

The contractor would use applications like Facetime or GoToMeeting to allow the inspector to remotely review a project.

City officials say it may not work in all cases, so on-site inspections will sometimes still take place with proper social distancing involved.

Construction projects like housing are considered essential work, and being able to do required inspections are key to keeping the projects from becoming stalled.
