South Coast Botanical Gardens Damaged By Thomas Fire Set To Reopen

The Thomas Fire burning in the hills above Ventura on December 4th, 2017

A South Coast botanical garden hit hard by the Thomas Brush Fire is set to reopen this weekend.

The Ventura Botanical Gardens were devastated by the blaze. The fire swept through the 100 plus acre park in the hills behind Ventura’s City Hall.

While the recovery efforts are continuing, more than 2,000 plants have been planted in the garden. The Gardens will reopen at noon Saturday. However, with the recovery efforts continuing, visitors will be restricted to some trails.

Meanwhile, City of Ventura officials say adjacent Grant Park remains closed due to fire damage while restoration efforts continue. They say a number of slopes were damaged, making pathways dangerous. There are signs in place to let people know which areas are closed.
