South Coast Athlete To Swim 10 Miles In Ocean For Coronavirus Relief

UCSB Photo

A South Coast athlete will be swimming ten miles as a way of generating money for coronavirus relief efforts.

Daniel Marella of UC Santa Barbara will be taking the plunge at Isla Vista this Saturday morning, and aiming to come out at the Yacht Club in Santa Barbara.

The money he's looking to raise through donations will go toward two funds at Cottage Hospital.

The first fund will contribute to COVID-19 home kits, for those who test positive but don't necessarily require hospitalization.

The second will go towards workers at the hospital who need help with expenses and hardships that come with being a front line worker during the coronavirus crisis.

Marella has never swum ten miles in the ocean before, so a special sailboat will be following him prior to his arrival at the Yacht Club.

Anyone wanting to swim alongside the athlete can do so for a $100 donation, and other donations for the cause can be made at Cottage Hospital's website.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
