Coming off a record year for air travel, a South Coast Airport was expecting the busiest summer in its history. But, coronavirus changed all that. Santa Barbara Airport is trying to make the best of the situation by using the quiet time by doing some needed maintenance projects.
It just completed repaving of its parking areas. The 750 spots needed to be redone for some time, but it was difficult to do because they had been in use so much.
The spots are now also numbered, to make it easier for people who park to find their vehicles when they return. In the early days of the crisis, passenger traffic through the airport was down by 96%. Airport officials say it’s bounced back a little. But, instead of seeing the expected 1500 passengers a day, they are only getting about 300, or 20% of normal.
