The increased brush fire threat has led to some public safety power outages on the South Coast, as a precaution against downed lines starting brush fires. As of noon Thursday, Southern California Edison officials say about 5400 customers in the Santa Paula and Somis areas have been affected by an intentional blackout. But, 76,000 customers in Ventura County have been told they are in potential outage areas.

The warnings include some customers in the Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and Ventura areas. Edison has narrowed the potential blackout areas of the county, with more than 94,000 customers on the list Wednesday night.

In Santa Barbara County, about 200 Edison customers in the Gaviota, and Point Conception area were on the potential shutoff list Wednesday night. But, they were dropped on Thursday. There are no current warnings for PG &E customers in northern Santa Barbara County, or in San Luis Obispo County.
