Some South Coast High Schools Announce Drive-Through, Virtual Graduation Ceremony Plans

Schools on the Central and South Coasts are continuing to figure out ways to help celebrate graduations.

More than 1500 high school seniors in the Santa Barbara Unified High School District are set to graduate this spring.

But coronavirus concerns mean graduation ceremonies are taking some very different forms this year.

Dos Pueblos and San Marcos High Schools will both do drive thru ceremonies on Wednesday, June 3. All participants will be required to stay in their cars.

Santa Barbara High School will do a day-long drive through event on the campus June 1. The school is planning to hold a traditional ceremony when health conditions permit.

La Cuesta and Alta Vista High Schools are creating online tributes, which will include a digital montage for each student. Staff members will videotape the graduation of each student over a several day period. The edited ceremony will be released online June 2nd.

All graduating seniors will receive signs they can display on their lawns, or in their windows.
