Small Brush Fire Closes Rail Line On South Coast

A small brush fire shut down railroad service in Santa Barbara County Thursday afternoon, but no structures were threatened.

Santa Barbara County firefighters have contained a small brush fire on the Gaviota coastline. The five acre plus blaze was discovered at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon, just east of Gaviota State Beach, and was visible to thousands of passing motorists.

The fire was on the south side of Highway 101, between the highway and the ocean. There are no homes in the area.  It was contained by around 3:30.

The highway is open, but Amtrak train service through the area was disrupted.   There’s no word on a cause yet.
