Six New Coronavirus Related Deaths Reported On Central, South Coasts

Six additional coronavirus related deaths have been reported on the Central and South Coasts.  Ventura County reported five new deaths Friday, and Santa Barbara County one.  There have now been 228 deaths overall in the region related to the virus, with 115 in Ventura County, 92 in Santa Barbara County and 21 in San Luis Obispo County.

177 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the region, with 70 in Ventura County, 67 in Santa Barbara County and 40 in San Luis Obispo County.  The number of new cases has been trending lower, but not long enough to get the counties off the state watch list.

More than 21,200 cases have now been reported in the three counties, with most of those infected already recovered.

Meanwhile, 21 additional Santa Barbara County Jail inmates have tested positive for the virus.  An inmate tested positive earlier this week, prompting testing for 66 other inmates in that area of the jail.  Nearly a third of them ended up positive.  The Santa Barbara County jail system has had a total of 63 inmates test positive.
