Santa Barbara Looks To Help Unsheltered Population By Booking Hotel Rooms

In an effort to protect the homeless during the coronavirus crisis, 68 hotel rooms have been secured for their use.

The location of the hotel has not been revealed, according to Laura Dubbels, the Santa Barbara Housing & Human Services Manager.

"All of the occupants will be non-COVID-19 individuals," Dubbels says. "So they have not tested positive for the virus."

Dubbels says that those over 65, or those with certain health conditions, would be prioritized to have access to the hotel rooms.

She says the city is also engaging restaurants, to buy meals for the unsheltered population.
