Santa Barbara County Flooding Evacuee Dies After Being Hit By Man Police Say Was DUI Driver

The flooding in Southern Santa Barbara County has indirectly led to another death.

A man who was an evacuee was struck, and fatally injured by a car.

Santa Barbara police say a man who was driving under the influence hit Ted Johnson as he was crossing State Street in a crosswalk January 23rd.

Johnson died this week from his injuries.

The 91 year old man was well known in the ski industry.

He and his wife had been staying at a downtown Santa Barbara motel after being evacuated from their Montecito home due to the flooding.

Police arrested Nicholas Hart of Goleta. They say the 26 year old man has prior DUI convictions.

21 people died in the January 9th flooding , and two are still missing.
