Santa Barbara County To Consider Agreements For Construction Projects To Help People Get Jobs

Santa Barbara County is looking at creating a standardized labor agreement which would mean to work with the county, contractors would have to employ people in need of job opportunities. The county tried to do that for its new North County jail project, but was unable to reach a full agreement.

County Supervisors Das Williams and Joan Hartman are proposing development of a policy so Community Workforce Agreements would not have to be negotiated on a project-by-project basis.

The agreements are seen as beneficial by some in giving veterans, women, minorities, and low income residents an entrance into trade jobs. County Supervisors will look at the issue when they meet in Santa Maria Tuesday.
