Santa Barbara city leaders recently supported a new policy regarding closing hours for parks.
The decision would have most parks close a half-hour after sunset, except in cases of special permitted events like softball games.
However, the City Council brought the issue up again, and decided that violating the policy would be an infraction, not a misdemeanor.
The Council was sympathetic toward those who overstayed their half-hour limit, and did not want the punishment to be so harsh that it discouraged or intimidated anyone going through a park area.
The police department adds that first offenders will likely be issued warnings.
