Santa Ana Winds Could Create Extreme Brush Fire Danger On South Coast

The Decmber, 2017 Thomas Brush Fire burning near Fillmore

Firefighters on the Central and South Coasts are geared up for what may be one of the most powerful Santa Ana wind events of the year, which could create a spike in the brush fire danger. The strongest wind is expected in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, but the entire region could be impacted.

Ventura and Los Angeles Counties will have an Extreme Red Flag Warning beginning at 11 Tuesday night, with potential wind on the 60 to 70 mile an hour range, and possibly higher in the mountains. Humidity could drop below 5% in spots, adding to the brush fire danger.

Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties could see wind in the 20 to 40 mile an hour range. The wind is expected to ease Thursday, with the Red Flag Warning expiring Halloween night.
