Rocket Carrying Canadian Satellites Successfully Launched From Central Coast

Jun 12, 2019

A rocket carrying a trio of satellites was successfully launched from the Central Coast Wednesday morning. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried the three Canadian RADARSAT Constellation satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Less than ten minutes after the 7:17 a.m. launch, the main reusable booster rocket successfully landed back at the base.

It’s the second time SpaceX has successfully landed a Falcon 9 booster back on land on the West Coast.

Fog and clouds obscured the liftoff for many people on the Central and the South Coasts.

The satellites will be part of a network used by Canada to monitor things like climate change, as well as areas hit by disasters like forest fires. They also contain electronics to allow the monitoring of ship movements.
