Reduced Brush Fire Weather Threat For Central, South Coasts Eases Power Safety Shutoff Situation

A reduction in the brush fire threat for parts of the Central and South Coasts due to changes in the weather has eased the intentional power shutoff situation.

Southern California Edison officials say that as of 2:30 p.m. Friday, some 300 Ventura County power customers are without electricity due to the precautionary cutoffs.  That's less than ten percent of the people impacted Thursday night.

And, there's an even bigger drop in the number of customers still in potential shutoff areas in Ventura County.  At its peak, more than 88,000 customers had been notified they could be hit by the intential blackouts.  But, that number is down to 14,000 as of Friday afternoon.

During the peak of the wind, about 200 customers in Santa Barbara County were on notice they could be impacted by public safety power shutoffs, but all of those warnings have been lifted.  PG&E never issued warning of potential shutoffs for its customers in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties as a result of this week's event.
