Record Heat Hits South Coast

Record heat and wind are creating major brush fire concerns for parts of the Central and South Coasts.

A high pressure ridge brought us the hottest temperatures of the week Thursday. Oxnard hit 97 degrees, breaking a record of 96 set in 1942. Camarillo Airport peaked at 98, topping a more than half century old record of 96 from 1965.

A Red Flag warning for high brush fire danger remains in effect for the mountains and valleys of Ventura County until 8 Thursday night.

Forecasters say we’ll see slight cooler temperatures Friday, and then more rapid cooling as low pressure moves into the region over the weekend.
