Public Will Have Opportunity To Pay Respects In Ventura County To Former First Lady Nancy Reagan

Memorial services are being finalized for Nancy Reagan, who died Sunday at the age of 94.

Plans for memorial events  in Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties for former First Lady Nancy Reagan are now being finalized. A series of events will take place this week to commemorate Mrs. Reagan. Her body is now at a Santa Monica funeral home, where family members and friends will be able to have private visitation.

Then, her body will lie in state at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. It will be similar to what happened in 2004, when about a quarter of a million people visited the library to pay their respects to the late president before his burial. A memorial service will take place at the library before her burial next to Ronald Reagan on a scenic hillside overlooking Moorpark.

It’s expected that a number of international political leaders, like former President George W. Bush, will be on hand. The exact timing of events hasn’t been announced yet, but it's expected the memorial service will take place late in the week at the earliest.

The Simi Valley Presidential Library closed Sunday morning after word of the former First Lady's death was announced, and it will remain closed for the next few days,  until after her funeral.  A stream of people stopped by the Madera Road entrance to the hilltop library all day long to drop off flowers, and other tributes to Mrs. Reagan.

Nancy Reagan died in her sleep Sunday morning at her Bel-Air home. She was 94 years old.
