Prosecutors From Four Counties Meet In Santa Barbara To Discuss Handling Of Golden State Killer Case

Joseph James DeAngelo, the man accused of being the Golden State Killer, makes a court appearance in Sacramento

District Attorneys from four California counties met in Santa Barbara Friday to look at how they want to handle the trial of the man authorities think is a serial killer who terrorized parts of the state for more than a decade.

Joseph James DeAngelo is suspected of being the “Golden State Killer,” responsible for 12 murders, including four in Goleta and two in Ventura, plus more than 50 rapes.

On Thursday, prosecutors announced the filing of first degree murder counts with special circumstances for four murders in Goleta which have been connected to the serial killer.

DA’s from Ventura, Santa Barbara, Orange, and Sacramento Counties met Friday. They discussed issues like joint prosecution, where the case might be tried, and whether the death penalty will be sought for the 72 year old man. They didn’t release details on the discussions, but say they will meet again in June to talk about the case.
