Potentially Increased Brush Fire Conditions For South Coast; Santa Ana Winds In Forecast

A strong Santa Ana wind event is in the weather forecast for later this week which could lead to some potentially dangerous brush fire conditions.

A trough settling into the Great Basin could create strong wind around the end of the work week for Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties.  Peak wind gusts topping 50 miles an hour are possible Thursday into Friday.  The humidity could drop to the 5%-15% range, increasing the brush fire potential.

The forecast computer models disagree on how long the event will last, but easing is definitely expected by midday Saturday.

Southern Santa Barbara County is also expected to see a pickup in wind, but not at the same level which will occur in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
