Popular Restaurant Chain Serving Central, South Coast Files For Bankruptcy Protection

The coronavirus crisis has been disastrous for the restaurant industry, with many restaurants on the Central and South Coasts closed or floundering financially.

A Southern California based chain with five locations in our region is the latest to seek bankruptcy protection.  California Pizza Kitchen made the filing this week.

It has 200 restaurants, but in the filing said it would close some underperforming locations.  CPK officials say 80% of its sales are for on-site dining, so health orders closing restaurants for inside dining have hit hard.

The chain has five restaurants on the Central and South Coasts, including Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.  There is no word on whether any of the local CPK’s will be closed.
