Plans For New VA Clinic On South Coast Take Big Step Forward

Efforts to open an expanded medical clinic for veterans on the South Coast have taken a big step forward, with the VA signing a deal for a lease. The federal agency will locate the 40,000 square foot outpatient clinic in an existing building on Ralston Street in Ventura. Plans call for the new facility to open in 2021.

It will replace an existing clinic in Oxnard. But, the new complex is much largee in size. It will allow the VA to expand primary care and mental health services, and add some speciaty services.

Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village has been pushing for the new clinic, sponsoring a bill in 2017 to authorize it. It’s intended to make care for veterans more readily available on the South Coast, so they don’t have to travel to Los Angeles for services.
