A foreign exchange student was killed, and four others were hurt in an early morning traffic accident on the South Coast involving an Uber car.
The crash happened just after one Friday morning, at the intersection of Hollister Avenue and Storke Road in Goleta.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s investigators say an Uber car with two passengers and another car with two passengers collided. Investigators say neither of the passengers in the Uber were wearing seatbelts, and a 19 year old woman was thrown from the vehicle. She died at a nearby hospital. Her name hasn’t been released.
None of the other four injuries were reported to be serious. Investigators believe alcohol and drugs aren’t factors in the crash, but they do think one of the drivers ran a red light causing the fatal collision.
