A non-profit group which helps feed the hungry on the Central and South Coasts is getting a big boost in its efforts from a city. Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is getting the use of a more than 3,000 square foot warehouse facility from the City of Goleta in a dollar a year lease.
It will allow the agency to increase its food storage capacity. The La Patera Lane warehouse is part of property the city bought for more than six million dollars last year, as it plans to build a new train depot. But, the depot is still in the planning stages, and the warehouse is currently vacant and unused.
The facility has a loading dock area, and easy truck access, which Foodbank officials say is ideal for food storage. The one year lease isn’t expected to impact the timeline for construction of the train depot, which is just beginning the design stage.
