New Virtual Photo Exhibition by South Coast College Professor, Husband Focuses On Homelessness

We see them virtually every day on the Central and South Coasts, but yet we often looking past them.  They are the homeless.  A South Coast college professor, and her husband are trying to change that, with a photographic exhibition highlighting the issue.

The project is the work of Cal State Channel Islands Professor of Art History Irina D. Costache, and her husband Cristian.

As the couple talked about the homeless people they would see on the streets, they decided to do something about it.  For six years, they took photographs of Southern California's homeless, amassing a collection of more than 700 images.

They were careful to try to preserve the dignity of those they photographed by not showing their faces, ethnicity, or sex.

They wanted to do an in-person exhibition, but the pandemic pushed it online.  The collection, called "Sidewalk Inn,"  runs through through Oct. 24. The project has also led to a book.  Here is a link to the exhibition:  sidewalkinn.com
