New System Could Improve Response Time For 911 Calls in Santa Barbara County

The response time from a 911 call could be improved with new technology in Santa Barbara County, in a plan revealed to the Santa Barbara City Council Tuesday.

Fire Chief Pat McElroy says it would be similar to a system in Ventura County that shows dispatchers where all emergency fire and medic crews are located and their status.

That means the closest crew would get the call.

Santa Barbara County does not have the same equipment used  in Ventura.

County Fire Chief Eric Peterson says he has a building for the new equipment and dispatchers available if government agencies are behind the project.
