New South Coast Oil And Gas Plan Would Close Certain Facilities Early

Venoco oil has offered to end its oil and gas production earlier than scheduled off Goleta.

The decision comes as part of a request to tap into a new supply off the coast, in an similar area slightly to the east.

The request has gone to the state lands commission, which has called for public comments.

As part of its plan, Venoco says it would use the most efficient methods to tap into the new oil well.

No fracking would be involved.

Venoco would take down platform Holly off Isla Vista, along with the aging onshore facility next to the Sandpiper golf course about 15 years sooner than planned.

The new project change is expected to come under criticism from environmentalists, who have long said some of the facility are non-conforming.
