An anticipated report to help revitalize a major civic area in Santa Barbara has been assembled by the consultancy Kosmont.
The company was hired by the city of Santa Barbara to take a look at the economic challenges of its struggling downtown area.
The report came after studies and public outreach.
It shows a higher vacancy rate and higher lease rate, along with lower overall sales, in downtown as compared to other areas.
The report suggests a blended mix of spaces, including retail, office, housing, and pop-up stores, along with entertainment. A satellite campus for UC Santa Barbara would also be beneficial.
Kosmont's report further concludes that the city is short-staffed, and does not have a business-friendly reputation.
