New Money To Come To Santa Barbara For Coastal Projects

There may be new money available for coastal projects ranging from a nature center to land preservation over looking the ocean.

A funding source from oil development off Santa Barbara County will be divided soon.

It's called the Coastal Resource Enhancement Fund, or CREF.

From a variety of proposals, a list with a value of about $800,000 has emerged.

The proposals include a nature center at Coal Oil Point near UC Santa Barbara, the preservation of 4.4 acres of land on the Gaviota Cost where oil facilities are coming down, and the excavation of sand on the Guadalupe Dunes where the set for the movie The Ten Commandments has been covered up for decades.

A decision is expected in the coming weeks by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.

The actual amount of money available is changing and will be recalculated because of the drop in oil production after the Plains All American Pipeline break last May.
