New Interactive Danger Map Will Show Areas Of Concern For Fire, Flood On South Coast

A new interactive map will be released this week to show vulnerable areas on the South Coast following the recent mudflow disaster in Southern Santa Barbara County.

The office of emergency services is working on the updated data to show where another hard rain could cause possible flooding or property loss.

The zone is not just in Montecito, the site of the recent mudflow, but will include Carpinteria and the zone affected by the Whittier fire along San Marcos Pass.

It was also incorporate the El Capitan coastal drainages, where structures and vehicles were lost last year.

Forecasters see dry weather now, but February and March are usually wet months, and developing emergency plans for the future remains a priority.
