New Geological Survey To Measure Coastline Changes On South, Central Coasts

Changes in our coastline and seafloor are going to be measured this week in a variety of locations along the Ventura and Santa Barbara County shores.

The US geological survey has a special onshore and offshore vehicle with equipment onboard. Its aim is to  to document changes due to winter weather conditions and new sediment that's come into the coastal zone.

The area includes Carpinteria and Montecito, hard hit from the January 9th weather event and mudflow.

The information will be compared to results calculated a year ago, though some areas like Montecito and parts of Santa Barbara have not had a major deposit of sediment since 2005.
