Naval Base Ventura County Gets First Traveler Diverted From LAX Over Coronavirus Concerns

Less than 24 hours after it was announced that Naval Base Ventura County would serve as a quarantine site for people possibly exposed to coronavirus, the base has its first person being held for observation. Gretchen Michael, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed to KCLU News Monday that an incoming traveler from China was diverted from LAX to the base.

Michael says the person didn’t show any symptoms, but was traveling from the affected region of China. Military and government officials announced Sunday that Naval Base Ventura County would be used as a coronavirus quarantine site.

Earlier this month, some incoming travelers from China were quarantined at three other military bases in the state, but those operations have since been phased out.
