Mountain Lion Blamed For Two Attacks On Dogs In Ventura County Neighborhood

A Ventura County neighborhood is on alert after a mountain lion was involved in two separate attacks on dogs, leaving one of them dead. It happened overnight Wednesday on Evening Sky Drive, in Simi Valley. A dog was injured in the first attack last night, and a second dog was fatally injured in the second early Thursday morning.

The neighborhood is in a rural area of the city north of Highway 118 near Yosemite Avenue. It’s in the foothills of the mountains that are part of mountain lion habitat. State Fish and Wildlife wardens were called to the area, but the mountain lion was gone by the time they reached the scene.

People in the area are being cautioned to keep their pets indoors, and to be careful when leaving their homes, especially at night.

National Park Service officials say the mountain lion isn’t one of the ones currently involved in its studies of the big cats.
