California Governor Gavin Newsom’s move to place a moratorium on implementation of the death penalty has affected a number of convicts from the Central and South Coasts.
Of the 737 people on the state Death Row, 17 are from Ventura County and eight from Santa Barbara County. Some of the convictions are more than three decades old.
The last execution was in the state was in 2006. The moratorium is in effect as long as Newsom is Governor, or if he changes his mind.
