Months After Thomas Fire, Trail In Santa Barbara County Still Facing Difficult Recovery

The Franklin Trail in Carpinteria is coming back after some of it was badly damaged by the Thomas Fire along with a heavy blast of rain in January.

Volunteers have been walking the route and trying to strengthen the trail paths in places where the dirt has been eroded in an area about Carpinteria High School.

The trail is one of the newest on the front country, and those working on it say that virtually every plant, tree and bush have been impacted or wiped out.

Those who hike regularly encourage those using the trail to be prepared for the lack of shade and unstable footing.

Many of the trails throughout the area are experiencing similar evaluations and improvement plans.
