Man Wounded In Confrontation With Police In Ventura Released From Hospital, But Arrested

A man police say made multiple threatening calls to 911, and then was shot in a confrontation with an officer in Ventura has been released from the hospital, but is now facing criminal charges.

Ventura Police say on April 1st, Christopher Hays made calls saying he was going to attack local schools and police officers.  Police started looking for the Ventura man, and stopped him in the parking lot of the Ventura County Government Center.

Investigators say when a sergeant tried to talk to the 37 year old man, Hays started yelling, and grabbed the officers baton.  After the officer was struck multiple times, he pulled out a gun and fired two shots, hitting Hays in the abdomen.

Hays was at a hospital until Thursday, when he was released, and then arrested and booked into the Ventura County jail for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
