Man Enters Guilty Pleas To Charges From Crash Which Killed Ventura County Actor/Director/Teacher

A Ventura County man has entered a guilty plea to charges related to a hit and run accident which killed a well-known educator in the county. The crash happened in July of 2017. Patrick McVicker was driving a car which spun out of control, and struck another vehicle on northbound Highway 101 in Ventura.

John Slade of Ojai was fatally injured when his vehicle was hit, and smashed into a guard rail. CHP investigators say McVicker fled the scene, leaving a passenger behind in his vehicle. He was arrested several weeks later at LAX. He’s expected to be sentenced to four years in prison after entering guilty pleas to vehicular manslaughter, and fleeing the scene of an accident charges.

Slade had been a teacher at Nordoff High School in Ojai. The actor and director was returning home from a play rehearsal at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks when his car was hit.
