Man Convicted Of Murder in Death Of Simi Valley Woman Staged To Look Like Drug Overdose

A man has been convicted of second degree murder in Ventura County for the death of a woman which was staged to look like a drug overdose.

Prosecutors say in January of 2009, Glen Sires and Idee Scholtz broke into the Simi Valley home of Janice Richardson. They say it was supposed to be a burglary, but there was a fight, and the duo smothered the 52 year old woman.

Investigators say they then staged the house to make it look like Richardson had died of a drug overdose. A few months later, detectives received information that the death was a murder.

After being convicted, Sires faces a 15 years to life sentence. Scholtz hasn’t gone on trial yet.
