Major Storm Heads Towards Central, South Coasts; Evacuation Orders Issued

A major storm headed to the Central and the South Coasts could bring heavy rainfall Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and that has prompted Santa Barbara County to issue evacuation orders. The storm is expected to arrive Tuesday night, and possibly hit in two waves.

Some of the heaviest rainfall could come early Wednesday morning. Rainfall amounts could range from an inch and a half to three inches on the coast and inland, and up to five inches in some mountain areas. Santa Barbara County issued evacuation orders for parts of the Thomas, Whittier, and Sherpa fire burn areas.

People in debris flow risk areas are being ordered to leave by 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Red Cross is opening an evacuation center Tuesday at the Goleta Valley Community Center. Pets can be taken to Santa Barbara County Animal Services, and the Humane Society.
