A local law enforcement agency is now offering a more convenient way to undergo fingerprinting for background checks.

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office will now accept “walk-ins” every Wednesday at its Live Scan fingerprint stations in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. No appointments are needed.

Sergeant Christopher Gotschall explains why the department started Walk-in Wednesdays.

“We were seeing a high number of cancelled appointments. We were seeing some people procrastinating to the last minute, and no appointment times were available,” he says.

Gotschall says the public must bring a photo ID and a live scan request form.

“Everything is automated. They have the ability to go ahead and use one of our live scan machines to take inkless fingerprints right there via the electronic system. And everything is uploaded electronically,” he says.

Appointments can still be made for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
