“Job well done.” Those were the words of praise to Coronavirus vaccinators in our region from California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday.
He spent the day meeting those administering the shot, starting in San Luis Obispo and rounding off at a vaccination center for educators in Ventura County.
Giving the community a "shot in the arm”, was Newsom's message as he thanked those involved in administering 30,000 shots in Ventura county per week.
Against the backdrop of a vaccination center in Camarillo, he said that while progress is being made, there's a duty to ensure the vaccine is getting to those in rural communities as well as those who are able to make it to large scale centers.
"We have a unique and special responsibility here in a State that's a majority minority state, to reach out and get into communities that are underserved and traditionally under-represented," he said.
"That can't just happen at these larger mass vaccination sites. People do not have access to the internet, do not have access to devices, they don't have access to vehicles or transportation to get to these sites. We have to meet people where they are," he said.
The goal is to vaccinate all Ventura County education staff by the end of March.
