It's big news for Ventura County. The state has cleared the way for more reopenings. State health officials moved the county from the most restrictive purple reopening level to the red level Tuesday.
The county’s drop in the number of new coronavirus cases, and the lower percentage of positive cases set the stage for the move.
The change means restaurants in the county can resume indoor service at 25% of capacity, or 100 people, whichever is less.
Places of worship, movie theaters and museums can also reopen indoor operations with capacity limits. Gyms can reopen indoors, with even stricter limits. They can operate at 10% of indoor capacity, with 12 feet of dancing required.
Personao care services like massage can reopen. And, indoor retail stores can go from operating at 25% of capacity to 50%, with the same expansion allowed in indoor malls.
If the county is able to maintain its red tier status for two weeks, school districts can reopen for in-person instruction without having to seek waivers.
Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties are already in the red tier.
