Human Remains Found Off Of Central Coast Highway Identified

Authorities have identified some human remains discovered on the Central Coast more than three months ago. A Caltrans crew doing some routine landscape work in June discovered part of a human skull off of Highway 1 near Morro Bay Boulevard, in Morro Bay.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team found additional remains.

DNA samples were sent to the California Department of Justice Lab for DNA testing.

It was determined that the remains were those of Gregory Paul Schweickert, who was a transient. Morro Bay Police had the last known contact with the 70 year old man in 2016.

The cause of death is unknown, but there were no signs of traumatic injuries which might indicate foul play. Schweickert’s family has been notified.
