Homelessness Concerns Spark Community Meeting On South Coast

The issue of homelessness has been a hot button issue in Ventura since a man was fatally attacked at a restaurant in April.

This week, a community group is sponsoring a forum on the issue.

The Midtown Ventura Community Council is holding the Thursday night event.

Organizers say the participants include Ventura’s police chief, a psychologist, a formerly homeless man, and a social services official.

On April 18th, Anthony Mele was fatally stabbed as he was eating dinner with his family at a Ventura beachfront promenade restaurant. The suspect in the killing is a homeless and possibly mentally ill man.

The homelessness forum will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ventura’s Grace Church.
