Hiker Dies In Santa Monica Mountains

A hiker died on a trail in the Santa Monica Mountains, with the hot weather believed to have been a factor.

A 72 year old woman was hiking with a group of people Tuesday near Sandstone Peak when she became separated from them.  They called Ventura County Sheriff's deputies for help.

A hiker who saw her on a trail reported she seemed disoriented.  She apparently collapsed near Canyonview Treailhead, where she was found by another hiker.  Paramedics were called, and CPR was started, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Foul play isn't suspected.  Her name hasn't been released.

National Park Service officials say hikers in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area this time of year should be preared for temperatures which can top 100 degrees, and should carry plenty of water.
