Governor Signs Tough Climate Change Legislation Co-Authored By Conejo Valley Legislator

The governor has signed into law a bill co-authored by a state senator from the Conejo Valley which sets some of the toughest greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the world.

SB 32 builds on the existing 2020 pollution reduction requirements, requiring even more stringent rules by 2030. California will have to cut its greenhouse gas emission levels by 40% from 1990 levels. Democratic State Senator Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills introduced and co-authored SB 32.

The governor also signed AB 197, which directs the state Air Resources Board to prioritize rules to protect low income communities from excessive pollution from businesses, as well as vehicles.
