Four Years After Catching Officials By Surprise, Regulators Get Hold On South Coast Party 'Deltopia'

The Deltopia street party in Santa Barbara's Isla Vista community has been a large-scale challenge for the county in the past.

In recent years, news rules have slowed the unpermitted event down.

When the event first started four years ago, it surprised many law enforcement and school officials, when they saw that the internet was drawing about 10,000 people to the local beachfront event, which was formerly known as Floatopia.

Four years later, a change in county rules will close the beach this weekend, and there are very strict rules on parking both in Isla Vista and nearby Goleta, similar to Halloween weekend.

There's also a noise ordinance that starts as early as 6 p.m.

Last year, the event was much smaller and safer, with fewer arrests.
